Killings. Death. Disaster. RainClan is on the brink of destruction. A murderer is within their midst. Lies, deciet, treachery... a Clan of false truths.
Alright, this roleplay will be... a bit of a murder mystery. Your OCs will have to try to guess who's behind the deaths... but so will you. One of my OCs is the murderer... but which one? That is up to you to find out. Enjoy!
Lionstar stretched, allowing the sunlight to carress him, embrace him, claim him as it's own. Cat's are made for sunlight, he told himself. Not rain. He got to his paws, stretched one last time, then flicked his tail at Applewhisker, beckoning his deputy towards him.
Whenever the feline rose, her first thoughts were on RainClan and the dawn patrol. Who to assign to it? It was essential that she rotate cats between night and dawn patrols, so as to ensure that a cat that had to stay up late to patrol wasn't put on the morning's first watch. Balance: it was necessary for a functionable clan. She couldn't use exhausted or ill warriors.
They couldn't let MistClan see them weak.
Applewhisker always woke at dawn's first light, so already the dusty-brown warrior was stretching her long and well-muscled limbs. Her tufted ears perked when she noticed her leader motioning for her, and so the dutiful deputy approached. "Yes, sir?" She didn't mean to come off as rude, but she hoped their conversation would be brief. She had to attend to the warriors and send them on their way.
"Attack!" Redkit yowled, heading straight for Deerpaw, claws unsheathed. "Let's kill them!" He leapt at the apprentice, scratching at her with needle sharp claws. The tortoiseshell she-cat rolled onto her side, purring and batting at the dark ginger tom.
The deputy raised her gaze from her golden-furred leader to scan camp, and think over his question. "As their father, it would be best that you didn't mentor them, in an effort to help them adjust and trust their clanmates. Darksplash could be a good option, I suppose, Swiftsong as well."
Lionstar nodded, ear twitching. "I have no intention of mentoring them... in fact, I regret having them." He let out an impressive sigh. "With all these deaths... I couldn't bear to lose them." The mighty tom shook out his fur. "Yes, Swiftsong and Darksplash... I agree."
Applewhisker felt her stomach tighten. She'd lost her own kits...but their blood was tainted, ruined by what they had inherited from their good-for-nothing father. It had been for the best that they had perished, it would seem. "I understand, sir. I'll do everything in my power to ensure that they remain safe from harm's way." Already the deputy was rising to her paws, eager to carry on with her morning duties. "Pebbleheart would be my third suggestion."
((Ye, she can take Deerpaw)) The deputy nodded as her leader dismissed her, turning to stride towards her warriors. "Darksplash, Deerpaw, Pebbleheart, come with me. We're taking out the dawn patrol." The mouse-colored Applewhisker ordered with a wave of her feathered tail.
Pebbleheart nodded, feeling her heart skip with excitement. But she quickly shook her head, dismissing the feeling. It’s just dawn patrol, she reminded herself, though her pale green eyes were sparkling as she arrived at the camp’s entrance.
Applewhisker continued to speak in monotone as she began to turn towards the camp's exit. "Our main task today is the refresh the borders and ensure that MistClan hasn't tried anything fishy. In the meantime, catch any prey that you might detect to feed the queen and her kits. But don't stray far from the patrol- we don't want you lost." The deputy paused, waiting for her apprentice to catch up.
It was good her apprentice had the energy at such an early hour, as Applewhisker wouldn't tolerate an apprentice that slept in. There was work to be done, and training to be had. The deputy moved fluidly through the forest on large yet silent paws, her ears tuned into the noises of the forest. In the distance, she could spot a mouse scuttling through the damp, fallen leaves, in search of its breakfast. Applewhisker flicked out her tail to order her warriors to stop. "Deerpaw, go get that mouse, show us what you've learned."
"But that is his name!" Antkit rolled his eyes. Redkit was such an idiot sometimes. Actually, no, make that all the time.
Spottedpaw lowered her muzzle to the ground and followed her mentors scent trail from the last time they gathered marigold. She was by the stream in no time, sniffing out marigold and grasping a bunch in her jaws. But, her paws slipped on the marshy wetness of the ground by the water. She shrieked, sliding towards the stream, and plunged in.
"You're the MistClanner!" Redkit retorted, pelt bristling. "MistClan cats are small like you!" He puffed out his chest, attempting to appear larger then he really was. "I'm not small! I'm big, like Lionstar!"
"Momma," Poppykit, who was in the process of being groomed by the obsessive queen, glanced up at Nightshade. "I want to go pick wildflowers again. Can we please go out of camp? Pretty please?" The tiny smoke kitten asked with rounded eyes, but the queen proceeded to ignore her request.
Applewhisker watched as the mouse scampered away after Deerpaw yelled something. "For StarClan's sake, you need to be-" The deputy paused when her ears twitched, detecting a distant noise. "-...no kidding." Turning on her paws, Applewhisker also raced in the direction of the stream, and raised a brow in confusion when she noticed the medicine cat apprentice going for a...erm, "swim". The deputy, with her massive size and long legs, was able to wade into the water without fear of being swept downstream.
((Also tossed Fadingstorm into StormClan, potentially))
((Recap: Applewhisker and Lionstar discussed mentors for his and Spiderfoot's kits. She then took out the dawn patrol while the kits play-fought and kinda disturbed some warriors. Spottedpaw went out to collect herbs and fell into the river, and so the dawn patrol is now trying to save her))
Lionstar sat back on his haunches, briefly licking his lips. "Who do you think is behind the murders? Is is a group of cats, or one cat acting of their own accord." He paused, sighing. "Darkleg, Foxface, Tulip-pelt... they didn't deserve to die. We must find out who is behind this... or we shall be destroyed."
Nightshade had walked off to get herself some breakfast, while Poppykit rolled onto her paws, ears perked in interest. "Really? I'll pick you a lot of pretty flowers if you take me!" The little kitten promised.
"Yeah, let's go!" The miniscule kitten bounced enthusiastically on her paws with a good in her eyes. Already, Poppykit was trotting towards the exit of camp woth light steps. "I can weave flowers into your fur, and make you a crown of ivy, and...." Clearly, she missed having other she-cats in the nursery.
Redkit trotted beside her, scanning the camp warily before slipping through the bramble barrier. "That sounds... interesting," he told Poppykit, not actually taking in any of her words. "Alright, let's go. Nightshade will find you're missing soon."
The eager kitten continued to babble on about all the fun things she'd do, regardless of his lack of attention. "...but don't worry, the bees won't bother you!" Poppykit then pricked her ears almost furtively before dashing out of camp.
"Nuh-uh, we're responsible members of RainClan, we wouldn't blindly run into a fox. Besides, Redkit is as red as one, so it would mistake him as a cousin, and then it wouldn't eat him. So I rest my case- we don't need escorting." The smoke kitten declared humbly in a mature tone, standing as a posture too straight and perfect for an immature 3-moon-old.
Antkit said that he was stinky like a fox? That was mean! "That wasn't nice of him. Maybe he's the one that smells like a fox, and he stinks so bad that all he can smell is himself?" Poppykit spoke earnestly, not to dis Antkit, but to find clarity in the situation. She bounced after Redkit meanwhile, and made a mental note that he didn't stink like a fox.
"i know but you should know kits shouldn't be out of camp and there are reasons and rules for that, and according to the clan your both kits, I know you'll be a kit for a bit longer but you should know your still untrained." Palepaw pointed out.
Palepaw growled but mixed with a purr. then realized. They're going towards the rivier! Oh StarClan they could fall in! She then started to run after the kits hoping to get ahead of them so she ran out of their view and to the side,
"This is why you don't jump into riviers!" Palepaw then leaped into the hard currents and pushed herself towards the red tom grabbing him by the scruff and tossing him onto the shores, then darted after poppykit.
"Ugh, come back here! Do you want to be shredded by MistClan! My paw is scraped!" She hissed as she put a little weight on it, "Ugh, c'mon Poppykit. Let's follow before he causes anymore trouble...." she limped after the kit.
All Palepaw needed to do was get them out of trouble, all she did was try to help and she saved Redpaw, resulting in a scraped paw, great, and yet no thank you's? That was fine, she didn't care, they where still greedy kits. But when your apprentices you learn to respect your fellow warriors and apprentices.
Redkit dropped into a crouch, slowly creeping forwards. Despite never being taught a hunter's crouch, his crouch was almost perfect. He lunged, then came up with a mouse in his mouth. "I caught it!" he exclaimed.
The MistClan cat stalked forwards, surveying her with cold eyes. "Oh, you're not taking those kits home. At least, not now. I think we'd better take you back to our camp. Your Clan can collect you later."
"You're injured," the tom noted. "And by the look of it, you're an apprentice. Odd spying party... two kits and an apprentice. But, I suppose that could be a clever disguise." He cocked his head, examining them, then turned. "You're going to come with us, willingly or not. We would perfer not to have to hurt you to force it, so please come quietly."
"You smell funny." Poppykit looked up at the MistClan patrol as she wrinkled her nose. Something about them smelled familiar, but she didn't quite understand. The kit pushed the thought to the back of her mind. "My momma said to never talk to strangers."
Her easy going temperament was quickly overtaken by her childish desires, causing Poppykit to step back. "No!" The kitten wailed as panic tightened in her chest. "No, I want my momma! You're not my momma!"
The smoke furball cried and blubbered for her mother to no avail. Little did she know, Nightshade never even made it back to camp. "I just wanted flowers for me and my momma!" Poppykit glanced over at Redkit with eyes as round as the moon. "...You promised you'd protect me." Her voice came out as a crackly whisper.
"Put her down!" ordered Redkit, glaring at the she-cat holding the kit. "Then tell her to stop struggling," the tom answered. "Let us go." Another cat seized Redkit, and he wriggled, attempting to get free.
"You promised." Poppykit whimpered once more before all the drama and fright got to her and caused the kitten to grow exhausted. She struggled a few times more before she finally went limp, as if she attempted to play dead.
"I-I'm sorry," Redkit responded, and he stopped struggling. "I'm sorry..." He allowed the cat to carry him, sighing. This is all my fault... what's Antkit going to say to this? He'll call me a traitor for moons.
Antkit bolted out of camp, his size and pelt colour making him hard to see. He immediately headed for the scent trail of his brother, which reeked like FOX. He was soon well on his way, barely looking up from the scent trail just in case he lost it.
"I don't want to be in MistClan. I wanna go home." Poppykit sobbed as she dangled in the jaws of the stranger. As she hung there, she noticed a series of kits running her way. They looked like her? "Shadekit, Shadekit! They found you, you came home!"
The kitten's eyes glowed in confusion. "But my name's Poppykit, I'm not Shadekit." Were those kits sick? They must have mistaken her for someone else- she'd seen plenty of other dark-furred kits before. "My little Shadekit! Oh, thank StarClan..." It was a silver tabby queen who spoke, pushing her way between the gathering cats.
Antkit soon became confused and muddled. No idea where to go, losing the scent every five seconds. By luck, he found it again and followed. By now he was far too excited to worry. He followed the trail until he came to the river. The scent stopped.
"Where did Redkit go?" he mumbled.
Oh! Across the river!
He stared into the depths and suddenly didn't feel so good...
((Yeah, he can be the biological dad)) "You can ask Palepaw and Redkit- I'm Poppykit, not Shadekit. My momma is Nightshade, not you!" She curled up into an even tighter ball when one of the other kits tried to sniff her. "She smells gross, she doesn't smell like Shadekit!" Despite the protest of the other kitten, the queen was stil confident that Poppykit was her 'Shadekit'.
"Oh, that's probably not true. You both are probably the same size, it's just that sibling drama. Trust me, I know how brother can be." She huffed. "I wonder... one of those kits, the black one, looked like one of our lost kits, or so the clan's fussing about. Is her mother in RainClan? There was also a light tabby who was very lightly colored."
Dapplepaw giggled. "Well soon you should learn to swim, it's not as hard when you get used to it, but usually kits don't learn til their apprentices. But I can tell you some of the basics, it's like running, you just had pe to keep kicking and open your paws wide to pull yourself forward, like stalking for prey." She meowed as they approached the enterence to camp. Hopefully she wouldn't be scolded for following the patrol secretly.
Ok, I guess I should if she'll be important in the future.))
"okay. Here we go." She meowed as they entered. She held her head low and approached the tom who kitnapped them. "I've brought this one, I found him on a bank. Shall I take him to the others?" She meowed sternly, she was wearing a more venomous phase and she knew Antkit would be confused.
Ummm okay so Redkit and Palepaw and Poppykit have gone over the Mistclan border and are now trapped in the camp, Antkit has followed them and fallen in love (sort of) with a MistClan she-cat... And Poppykit was actually born in MistClan))
Applewhisker was finishing up the dawn patrol with her group, and found a rather disturbing scent trail along the river that divided their territory from MistClan. What were Poppykit, Antkit, Redkit, and Palepaw all doing outside of camp? And worse yet- what were they doing around MistClan of all clans?
Rosefur ran out of camp towards the dawn patrol, she knew something was wrong, she ran up to Applewhisker. "Applewhisker. Something wrong is going on. Most of the kits are gone. And Palepaw did it report to Grayspots (was that the name?) she meowed. "Have any idea where they'd have gone?" She asked.
Palepaw sighed. "RainClan, I'm hoping they know where here. But you all should know we'll all get in trouble despite what we tried to do." She sighed. "It's better than being in this dump." She hissed purposefully loudly.
"I need to speak to Lionstar." The stoic deputy responded curtly as she began to storm in the direction of RainClan's camp. "They've been intercepted and kidnapped by MistClan's patrol. They've no right to take kits that haven't the slighest clue of what they're doing." Applewhisker pushed her way into camp.
Dapplepaw dipped her head as she turned to go into the apprentices den, she cast one last glance at Antkit and then padded into the brambles and plopped down into the nest she claimed that was closer to the enterence of the den, so she could see what was happening in the clan and also rest.
Palepaw rolled her eyes. "Ugh. Can RainClan come any faster? I can't bare to deal with kit drama!" She hissed. "Couldn't you just let us go home? Huh?! I don't like this stupid place!" She hissed to the tom who brought them here. Her amber eyes filled with flames of anger as she stared into his.
"She smells like a stinky RainClan cat, she can't be my sister!" A silver-furred kit protested in response to the queen's claim over Poppykit. Meanwhile, Poppykit was still trying to rap her head around it all, just try to understand for a second. She couldn't possibly be this cat's kitten, she never remembered ever seeing her in her entire (short) lifetime! "Poor dear is soaked- you didn't try drowning your own daughter, did you?" The queen shot the tom a harsh glare before pulling the protesting Poppykit in her direction. "I'll go clean her up."
"Let go of me!" Poppykit continued to flail like a fish, while also ironically stinking like one as well from her little incident with the river.
"And you will not be using her as a bargaining chip- she's not going anywhere. She's home, at long last." The queen glared daggers at her mate before retrieving Poppykit and carrying her off in the direction of the MistClan nursery.
"Lionstar!" Applewhisker barked as she took up a wide stance. "We have a problem. Redkit, Antkit, Palepaw, and Poppykit had scent trails leading to MistClan's side. I believe they've been intercepted by a MistClan patrol." Starclan, how did Spiderfoot lose two kits at once? Nightshade, she could understand, but...
"We aren't you little chips of prey! We're real cats mousebrain! You don't need more territory! And also, Poppykit isn't your kit! Ugh!" She hissed. "These stupid furballs decided to jump into the river to run away for no reason and I had to save them because they didn't know how to swim!" She snapped. "I'd like to see them shred your pelt!" She added, licking her paw.
At this rate, Poppykit was wanting nothing more than a comfortable nest. Maybe it was all just one big nightmare, and she'd open her eyes to find herself beside Nightshade's warm belly. Would the mean MistClan cats let her go home? They couldn't be that cruel, right? The smoke kitten found herself being carried into the nursery and then placed into a nest, where the strange queen proceeded to groom her fur to dry it.
The tom glanced past the apprentice and into the bramble den where their leader was sleeping. "You take orders from Hailstar, not me," he told her, then sighe. "Although... he is a little... incapable at the moment. Greencough, I think it was."
"Yep, were gonna guard these RainClan fiendssssss, hoorayyyy!" She decided too lose her happiness as he called Stonepaw over. She wanted to speak with them but now she had to wait. She padded over to them and dodged Palepaws glare as she sat and started grooming herself, Antkits gaze followed her.
Redkit's pelt bristled. "That is something I know I cannot do. Why can't you just let us go? Give us back Poppykit, and allow us to leave! You can't keep us ransom, it could mean war! Do you really want that?"
Dapplepaw sighed. "No I don't want that. I'm only following my deputies orders, nothing else." She sighed. "I honestly wish I could let you back home. It would make things a lot easier. But Hailstar has GreenCough and we are losing territory to FireClan." Dapplepaw grumbled.
He then seemed to realize that this could make him an even more useful bargaining chip and froze. "But he doesn't care for me. At all. Hates me. Same with Antkit. Hates us both. Tried to drown me, once."
Dapplepaw couldn't help but sigh sorrowfully. "Why? You should be treated with respect for being a clan leaders kin? That's so horrible." Dapplepaw sighed. She hated when a pats where treated poorly, it made her wanna curl up around them and make them happy.
"Uh, yeah," Redkit agreed. "So... we're strong like our father, but you couldn't... use us as bargaining chips. He, uh... wouldn't care. Probably would want you to just... kill us." He glanced at Antkit for support.
"Wait!" She hissed. This kit wasn't gonna fool her. "Oh really? If your father didn't care about you then why would he be setting a patro, to get ya? Hmmm? Hmmmm? I'm not fooled by the 'oh wait! Maybe if I lie about him hating us act. Maybe they'll let us goooo' not today mister Redkit! I'm gonna follow my orders and watch you."
"Nice." She meowed to Stonepaw. The looked back to Redpaw. "I don't know who this spottedpaw is, but I'd rather not speak again. I'm pretty sure Hailstar will have my head if I keep talking to you." She paused. "Also, if this one is so important how come you don't treat her with respect? I saw you run away from her." Dapplepaw rolled her eyes.
Finally! Someone who actually thinks for once! Palepaw hid her slight grin.
"What! I'm the one who saved you! I could've let your sorry tails drown!" She snapped. Palepaw didn't like this kit, he was a stupid furball without a brain, if he thought she tried to hurt him, he absolutely has bees-for-brains.
"Are ya sure? You just said your father Lionstar didn't care a mouse for you. Also, as a kit, you are regulated to staying in camp for this exact reason. Kits stay until apprenticed because kits like you at 5 moons always get into trouble before they even get to lean anything, so technically you aren't as impotant. And you have bees for brains if you think your is important for being Lionstars son." Palepaw stuck her tongue at him.
"No. Being a kit has nothing about being important. It's how your reputation and respect for your clan is, and I'm pretty sure right now it's pretty low speaking you snuck out of camp and rejected an escort to get flowers. And decided that you where SOO smart and decided, 'hey! C'mon Poppykit! Let's try and see if we can drown!' And then here we are. I'm pretty sure you won't be forgiven once MistClan takes our territory." Palepaw snapped.
